This book is absolutely gorgeous. I've always loved medieval illuminated manuscripts, especially the crazy-looking monsters, demons, hybrids, and whimsical figures that often cavort in the margins. I'm constantly amazed by the creativity and bizarre imagination of these medieval artists so I have been looking for an art book that focuses on them for a long time. That book has finally arrived! It is full of colorful high-quality images of awesome medieval monsters, along with a brief explanation of the stories or traditions that go along with the images so you have some idea of what you're looking at. I wouldn't call it a scholarly book, although I'm sure scholars would enjoy it too. It's aimed more at the regular person who just wants a stunning visual collection for their art library, with text that's easy and fun to read. It would make a really fun gift or coffee table book as well, since it's great fun to share with others.
A truly awesome little collection of mythical monsters, pictures, stories and text. I really enjoyed reading it and being taken back in time! Thank you so much for collecting and compiling this in an easy to read, well presented book! 5 Stars, only because I cant give it 10!
This tasty little tidbit is pleasantly presented and deliciously delivered. It serves as an appealing appetizer to wet one’s whistle for a heartier, more in-depth study of medieval imagery. It is a great compact introduction to this charming subject matter, leaving the reader “hungry†for more.

Not as thorough as one may hope but INCREDIBLE clear and vivid historical drawings.
Very cool, just wish it was bigger with more history in it.
